I met my new doctor and am happy with my choice. He checked me over then said I needed an orthopedic doctor and physical therapy for both my back and shoulder. Woo Hoo Here is the amazing part. I got calls and appointments less than an hour later.

I went to physical therapy yesterday and was given a "workout" program that is doable while on the road.

Monday I will have blood drawn and BP checked again. The high blood pressure is from pain. So blood pressure will go down.

Our date of departure will be in about a week.

My friend will be following me for a few days and we will part ways after Bisti Badlands. I will head East and she will head back to Tucson.

I do have a caretaker for my home.

All that is left is for me to make a list of items I need to pack in the van and to clean the van.

Positive Affirmation and Bathroom Mirrors

All of my feelings (sadness, guilt, emptiness, loneliness, anger, relief, irritability...] are all normal reactions to the losses I am experiencing.

I see a therapist for grief and loss. I have been seeing her for a little over a year. I would advise everyone to see a therapist. It has been life changing for me.

Two weeks ago she had asked me to do a project. She asked that I write positive affirmations on my bathroom mirror. My bathroom mirror takes up a huge portion of my wall. It was the previous owner's decision to put it up.

The one thing I do not need to see when I first wake up is "you are beautiful, you are amazing, you are AWESOME!" Because at my age, I am not beautiful. At 4 A.M. I am not amazing let alone awesome. That takes a while. plus at least two cups of tea

I got my comeuppance today. She said out of all the people she knew, she knew I would do this. I was quirky enough to try it.

Thanks to COVID and video chat she has seen my dining room wall with the two taxidermy bats.

She has given me so many great tools, so...

On my way home I stopped at my son's workplace and I borrowed a dry erase marker.

I think.... no I know the hardest sentence to believe is "I am enough." I will include that phrase in my morning meditation and prayers.

I plan to write my mantra on the mirror... It is big enough:

1. I am grateful

2. I feel beautiful, I am beautiful

3. I am proud of myself

4. I welcome all forms of positivity into my life

5. I am free to be myself

6. I am whole, healthy, and strong

7. I choose to radiate happiness and love

8. I have the power to create change

9. I am unique and confident

10. I choose to focus on the bright side of all situations

11. I am thankful for what my body can do

12. I treat myself with love and respect

13. I am deserving and worthy of all good things

14. I do not judge myself or others

15. I accept myself for who I am

Georgia's Siren Call

"The optimist looks at the horizon and sees an opportunity;
the pessimist peers into the distance and fears a problem."
William Arthur Ward

I love planning trips - I realize that 87 percent of the time the plan changes. I will be done with all that needs to be done by Monday morning. This is subject to change because I am seeing a new doctor Thursday about my back, shoulder, pain management.... I am hoping he will say "wear a sling."

My friend, Marta will be following me. We wanted to camp at the Cosmic Campground in New Mexico but it is closed. So Luna Lake AZ will be the first stop, followed by Canyons of the Ancients CO, then Bisti Badlands NM..... I am aware there is a whole lot of beauty where we will be exploring- I am aware we will get sidetracked.... a lot. So I am not setting dates.

After exploring three states with designated stops, I plan to travel east stopping in Iowa, Missouri, Illinois.

My take off date? Sometime before the 20th.

Then I will head home after visiting friends, family.... unless I heed Georgia's siren call. Which would not be a bad thing.

Ault Colorado Cemetery

“Here lies an atheist.
All dressed up with no place to go.”

Definitely homemade.  It shows the baby birds leaving the nest while one adult bird remains close to the nest and the other watching while perched on a limb.  Very unusual.

But those who wait for the Lord shall have new strength; they will raise wings like eagles; they will run, and they will not tire; they will walk, and they will not be fatigued.

Joe P Martinez Ault Colorado

Pvt. JOE P. MARTINEZ

Rank and organization: Private, U.S. Army, Company K, 32d Infantry, 7th Infantry Division.

Place and date: On Attu, Aleutians, May 26, 1943.

Entered service at: Ault, Colorado

Birth: Taos, New Mexico

G.O. No.: 71, October 27, 1943.

Citation:

For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity above and beyond the call of duty in action with the enemy. Over a period of several days, repeated efforts to drive the enemy from a key defensive position high in the snow-covered precipitous mountains between East Arm Holtz Bay and Chichagof Harbor had failed. On 26 May 1943, troop dispositions were readjusted and a trial coordinated attack on this position by a reinforced battalion was launched. Initially successful, the attack hesitated. In the face of severe hostile machine gun, rifle, and mortar fire, Pvt. Martinez, an automatic rifleman, rose to his feet and resumed his advance. Occasionally he stopped to urge his comrades on. His example inspired others to follow. After a most difficult climb, Pvt. Martinez eliminated resistance from part of the enemy position by BAR fire and hand grenades, thus assisting the advance of other attacking elements. This success only partially completed the action. The main Holtz-Chichagof Pass rose about 150 feet higher, flanked by steep rocky ridges and reached by a snow-filled defile. Passage was barred by enemy fire from either flank and from tiers of snow trenches in front. Despite these obstacles, and knowing of their existence, Pvt. Martinez again led the troops on and up, personally silencing several trenches with BAR fire and ultimately reaching the pass itself. Here, just below the knifelike rim of the pass, Pvt. Martinez encountered a final enemy-occupied trench and as he was engaged in firing into it he was mortally wounded. The pass, however, was taken, and its capture was an important preliminary to the end of organized hostile resistance.

Private Joseph P. Martínez was the first Hispanic-American and first Coloradan to receive the Medal of Honor during World War II.

Martínez was buried with full military honors at Ault Cemetery, Ault, Weld County in Colorado. On April 13, 1945, the United States Navy named one of its ships, which served as a troop transport during the Korean War, the USNS Private Joe P. Martinez. The state of Colorado has honored his memory by naming a street and renaming a former base reception center and early officer's club which currently serves as the service center after him. The government named a Disabled American Veterans chapter in Colorado and an American Legion post in California in his honor. Three statues were erected with his likeness and are located in the Colorado cities of Ault, Greeley at the Weld County Veterans Memorial Park, and Denver. The U.S. Army also named an Army Reserve military installation in Denver, Colorado after Martinez. The 7th Infantry Division honored him by naming the Fort Ord Welcome Center (originally the Post Headquarters built in 1941)Martinez Hall in 1977. Although Fort Ord closed in 1993, Martinez Hall still serves as a Veterans Transition Service Center. The City of Denver has also named a park after Private Martinez, "Joseph P Martinez Park", which is at 900 N Raleigh St, Denver, Colorado.

Keota Colorado

Round and round up and down
Through the streets of your town
Everyday I make my way
Through the streets of your town
The Go-Betweens

Keota is a mostly abandoned town located on the prairie in the Pawnee National Grasslands in Weld County, Colorado. There are some residents but it was fun to walk around and see the town. Lots of foundations but only 3 houses remain.

King Louie Bowling Shirt Case

Feelings come and go like clouds in a windy sky.
Conscious breathing is my anchor.
Thich Nhat Hanh

While on the road I keep my meditation altar and the items I use in a little picnic basket. It is cute but not exactly functional. I came up with the idea of using a small suitcase. One without wheels, made well and sturdy. That way the top of the suitcase can be used as an altar.

Perhaps a child’s suitcase.

I went to an antique store in search of a small suitcase. The lady that assisted me was amazing. I told her I was looking for a small suitcase. When she asked why and what purpose. I explained I needed it for a portable meditation altar.

She immediately showed me a laughing Buddha statue and she was unsure of the stone. The stone was serpentine. We had a long discussion of stones and I was able to identify most of those she showed me.

We also discussed altar setup which as we all know is very personal and must come from you. Also discussed crystals and identifying them. Also touching them and the energy that comes from them. All in all it was very much what I needed at this time. Connecting with a like minded person and sharing of personal beliefs.

Then she found the perfect case for me. A King Louie Bowling Shirt Case, complete with the logo on the inside. It is perfect.

I will be posting pics and the items I place on my altar in a latter post.

Yes, I bought the Buddha.
